This was my second workshop at Carmel Public Library, where I got to present to an older audience (grade 10) about the psychology behind social media. We covered more mature topics such the attention economy, social comparison theory, and the appeal of intermittent rewards. We also dove deeper into the topic of how social media algorithms work behind the scenes with choice architecture, and how we can take advantage of our cognitive biases that make us addicted to build better routines and habits.
This was a very engaging and thought-provoking session, and I had a lot of fun!
