Parent Panel with JGL
It’s been a busy summer! I recently spoke at a panel for parents of young golfers, where I shared how to build better habits for productivity and emotional regulation in life and how these concepts can connect to golf and help with athletes’ mental game. My coach thought this panel would be helpful for parents, as it provides an interesting, fresh perspective from a high school student (myself) who is balancing academics and sports, and might provide insights into how parents can better support their kids.
This was a super exciting experience for me, and I really enjoyed the professional setting and atmosphere of the panel. Although at first I was nervous to speak in front of so many adults, I’m glad that I was able to share my personal experiences with them. I’ve also learned that I can make a genuine impact on others’ lives, even if it’s through small, everyday actions.
During the panel, I covered the psychology behind why we procrastinate, explaining concepts like hyperbolic discounting and Parkinson’s law. I also shared strategies that I’ve personally found helpful to combat procrastination, such as timeboxing and utilizing the habit loop. I also focused on how to cultivate our mindset, covering terms like the peak end rule and emotional frequencies, as well as the law of attraction.
I’m glad to report that the panel was a success, and the parents were super engaged!
